The first stage of the project is focused on research and a social diagnosis of homo- and transphobia in the six cities involved in this project: Sabadell, Girona, Charleroi, Nottingham, Wroclaw and Thessaloniki, in order to bring about empirical evidence of the situation for LGBT people in medium-sized cities. First, an analysis will be conducted through desk research of the existing legislation, policies and practices in relation to homo- and transphobia in the different contexts, at national, regional, and local levels. In the subsequent ethnographic fieldwork we will conduct in-depth interviews and focus groups both with LGBT people and employees of local governments, public services and NGOs. This will be complemented by a web-based survey addressed to citizens who live in the six cities, in order to analyse their perceptions of sexual and gender diversity.
